Autumn/Winter Style Essentials

It's always a weird time of year transitioning from summer into the darker nights and chilly mornings. This year more than ever as the Indian summer dragged it out for us! And whilst i'm not complaining that the sun stuck around for a few more days, i'm totally now in the mood for some cosy knitwear, jeans and boots!

This season sees nothing too crazy hitting the shelves (unless a fringed pashmina scares you!) and a lot of similarities to last year which is lucky for our wardrobes and bank balances. I think you only need a few staples this season that will see you right through. So I've rounded up my fave pieces, from budget high street to some more premium brands, I've chosen the nicest pieces that you will keep for seasons to come! As ever this contain some affiliate links.

Green green and more green 💚

Yep you guessed it, one of THE colours this season is a bright, kermit the frog green! From shirts and jumpers to splashes in dresses, the more shrek the better (and I say Shrek as that is what Tom ever so politely called me when I wore my green shirt for the first time! Ah love)

It’s not a colour I have really tried to style much before but I am LOVING it! There is something so happy and warming about the tones that actually green should be seen!

If you’re not feeling too brave then the one item I would recommend is a shirt, it’s a classic and can be styled up or down!

Quilted and Puffer Coats

It was the quilted gillet that hit in a big way last season (which by the way is one of my fave purchases ever!) but this season sees the lightweight collarless quilted jacket inspired by Frankieshop. If you were lucky enough to get your hands on one then I salute you, but there are a gazzilion high street dupes that I am loving. I am careful with the length of them, I find anything too short (like bomber jacket short) is less flaterring on me, which is why I have been drawn to some of the longer styles as a lightweight alternative. I've also pulled in some of the best puffers, the Market classic as well as some absolute bargains from Matalan.

Knit Dresses Time to upgrade our loungewear ladies! These knitted dresses are a perfect Autumn staple and can be layered up or down. I love the baggier styles for comfort, but there are also beautiful fitted versions, super soft and comfy!

Chunky Boots

Back with a bang, chunky boots are back again but even bigger! Think ankle and knee length, bover boots as my mum would call them, and RUBBER! I thought the cream Zara ones I bought last year were chunky but they are nothing on some of these! Style with straight leg jeans, knitted dresses and leggings, think how useful they’ll be on snow days! And yes, you do feel a bit of a wally when you first put them on but you soon get used to the chunky soles!

Shackets

Of course how could I give you Autumn without the mention of the word shacket. They're here again this year, slightly longer styles than last year and some fab prints. Theres a quilted version from Zara below which looks so comfy. You cannot go wrong they are one of the most useful items for your wardrobe.

Trench Coats

And finally the classic trench. Here every year for the rest of our lives, i've found some fantastic high street versions which are so similar to the Burberry we all know and love. If you do want to invest, I've linked the famous Burberry Islington, but it's always good to check second hand sites like Vestiare where I bought one of mine for some vintage finds!

Let me know what you think ladies and of course show me your finds!
